Girls Just Wanna Have Freedom

About

Apple logos

I’ve always secretly disliked Apple, most likely because of its smug Mac apologists who think they’re so much better than everyone else just because of what computer they use and will take whatever junk Apple releases to maintain that feeling. Linux users don’t act like that, even though they would have every reason to because they actually ARE using better computers– and they’re doing it for free.

Anyway, Steve Jobs is now suing New York City over their trademark application for an apple logo (to emphasize the fact that New York City is the Big Apple). Either Jobs remembers when NYC was known as the Big Onion, or he’s reached a new level of madness. “Think Different,” indeed.

I’m not a Bill Gates fangirl, but at least he gives some of his money away and seems like he has a sense of humor– Jobs is just so serious and full of himself and he doesn’t even have a license plate. It’s distasteful. Microsoft also doesn’t name their entire product line “ISomething,” which gets them extra points from me. Bill Gates can also become the richest (or third-richest) man in the world without suspicious Jobs-like stock backdating.

  1. Do you really think the case is Steve Jobs versus New York City? There is a thing called corporations, perhaps you’ve heard of them?

  2. No, obviously I know that it’s Apple’s decision. However, everyone gives Jobs credit for Apple’s good ideas, so we might as well dun him for the bad ideas, right? Why not? He’s the founder, head, and is on the board of directors along with his self-appointed cronies like Al Gore.

I may have heard of this thing called a “corporation,” yes, it sounds familiar.

  4. I kinda respect that fact that he doesn’t have a license plate.

  5. You are absolutely right, we linux peeps definitely have reasons to brag, I mean, our penguin is much more personable than a window or an apple. What other reason do you need?

  6. Not having a license plate is cool only for the reason that not having an Ipod is cool– you’re unlike everybody else and you’re not going with the crowd. Since everyone doing just that is how Jobs has made his money, it is quite interesting that he chooses to “think different” in his own life. However, there are better ways to display that than flouting the law (and I would consider a license plate law to be a bit of a public safety issue if it is anything) in your luxury (albeit mass-produced luxury) car.

Way to go Paul, Tux rocks.

  7. It should probably be noted that under current trademark laws “if you don’t defend it, you lose it.” I’d classify this lawsuit as very likely to be under this category: If Apple did not defend its trademark here–even knowing full bloody well that it’s ridiculous and that they are going to lose the case–they risk losing their own trademark.

  8. The lawsuit is pretty ridiculous considering that Apple stole their logo and name from the Beatles. And I agree about the “Mac only” people being arrogant and elitist. The bottom line is that I don’t think any company should be able to own the rights to all images of apples.
