Girls Just Wanna Have Freedom

About

I care for kids, families, the sick and the elderly, working class, middle class, and every American. To end poverty and advance the American Dream, I am Libertarian Girl.

In another example of what has gone wrong with our “government-can-solve-everything-for-me-through-regulation” society, a Mississippi lawmaker has introduced a serious bill which would bar restaurants from serving those considered obese (determined through weighing at the restaurant and through BMI measurements).

This is a clear case of, as with smoking bans, governments thinking that they know better than entrepreneurs how to run a private business. Should cigarette shops be barred from selling to nicotine addicts? Should doll shops be barred from selling to doll collectors who are deemed by the state to have taken their collections overboard? Should book lovers who “read too much” be banned from Borders and Barnes and Noble? Once this begins, where does it end? WHY would the government want to take away what very well might be the best and most loyal customers of a business?

The fact that this bill was seriously introduced by an American legislator is quite worrying to me. It doesn’t portend good things ahead.
