Girls Just Wanna Have Freedom

About

I care for kids, families, the sick and the elderly, working class, middle class, and every American. To end poverty and advance the American Dream, I am Libertarian Girl.

This morning on that fine show Fox and Friends, Ron Paul quoted Sinclair Lewis in reference to Mike Huckabee’s anything-but-subtle “is-it-a-cross-or-is-it-a-window-pane” ad, saying: “It reminds me of what Sinclair Lewis once said. He says, ‘when fascism comes to this country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross.’ Now I don’t know whether that’s a fair assessment or not, but you wonder about using a cross, like he is the only Christian or implying that subtly. So, I don’t think I would ever use anything like that.”

Being the fascists that they are, Fox and Friends immediately rushed to commercial, with the host hilariously insisting that Huckabee is not a fascist. Of course, if Huckabee had said that Ron Paul was a fascist, no such denial would have been given by the host, the same guy who will never live down screaming “This is BIG!” when breaking the “news” of Barack Obama going to school in Indonesia when he was younger.

As far as the quote goes, I think it’s true. Huckabee isn’t the absolute worst kind of fascist like Hitler, but he is possibly an even more dangerous type of president for America. He pretends that he’s this happy-go-lucky preacher who cares about things other than just getting elected, when in reality, he’s a flip-flopper to rival the likes of Romney and a tax hiker and nanny-stater like this country hasn’t seen since FDR– who, to be fair, was governing during the Depression and then a world war. Huckabee wants to tell you not just what to believe and who to fight to maintain “honor,” but also what you can do, what you can eat, where people with AIDS should be quarantined, and who should be punished for rape– not those whose victims have ties to Democrats.

Bush came to office “carrying a cross and a flag,” and look what’s happened since then. Huckabee is doing the same thing. Fascists come in saying they’re something they’re not, just as the Antichrist isn’t going to be wearing a sign saying, “Guess what, people? I’m the Antichrist.” (And no, I’m not saying that Mike Huckabee is the Antichrist, this is just an example– remember the Left Behind books? I only read two or maybe three of them, 10 years ago, but one part I always liked is that the Antichrist was the last person anyone would expect– the UN Secretary-General.)

  1. In Huckabee’s defense about his AIDS victim quaranteen statement-he said it in 1992, when it was still only about 1967 in Arkansas.

  2. Haha true– however, by that time, there were many Ryan Whites and other similar victims, and since they did have TVs in Arkansas at that time, he simply should have known better.

I wonder whatever happened to his proposed meeting with Ryan White’s mother?

Judging from his recent suicide-related comments, it seems that Huckabee just doesn’t have the filter that stops most of us when we’re about to make completely inappropriate comments. That’s probably not good for a president, who is called on all the time to make off-the-cuff comments.
