About

I care for kids, families, the sick and the elderly, working class, middle class, and every American. To end poverty and advance the American Dream, I am Libertarian Girl.

John Edwards must be having a rough time. He’s raised so little money for his presidential campaign, and according to the FEC, he now can’t use your tax dollars to double the $4.5 million he pulled in from the Democratic PAC, ActBlue.

Edwards claims that he does not accept PAC money, but ActBlue is technically incorporated as a PAC, and thus funds raised through PACs can’t be doubled through your tax dollars like the rest of Edwards’ donations. One important reason for this is that the FEC has laws on who can donate and how much, and ActBlue didn’t keep track of the individual donors giving to it– in other words, someone rich like Edwards himself could have donated the entire $4.5 million, thus getting around the $2,500 individual limit imposed by the FEC.

It enrages me that millionaires like Edwards can double their campaign donations on the backs of taxpayers, without first resorting to their own fortunes. Talk about a regressive tax– tax everyone to pay for a millionaire’s vanity political campaign. There are “Two Americas” indeed– the one John Edwards lives in with his $60 million, and the one the rest of us live in, kept there by his hypocritical, self-serving policies, put together with your money of course, not his.
