I came out of the grocery store last night and found that some jerk in either a truck or an SUV had hit my car and left.
The police officer who came to the scene was one of the nicest I’ve ever met. I thought it was weird when he asked if I had a weapon on me, but he explained that my concealed carry weapons permit had come up in the license check.
He told me, “I love concealed carry. I wish everyone had a concealed carry permit.”
He’s obviously a smart guy. The police would have much, much less work to do if criminals knew that their potential victims were trained and possibly armed– there would probably be fewer who tried in the first place.
It’s too bad that the many good police officers get lumped in along with the few disgraces, although I had to laugh when I saw the latest email from Sean Gabb of the Libertarian Alliance UK, who advised Britain’s striking police force: “Police: Go on Strike, Stay on Strike.”
PS: Please don’t ever be THAT PERSON and hit a car and take off. That gives you all sorts of negative karma in the world! There is a living, breathing person who owns that car and will be very annoyed when they come back and find that you’ve run off like you didn’t do anything.

Here in the UK we have much fewer of those good coppers than I suspect you have over there. The majority of our coppers are Marxists enforcing a political agenda.

That seems to be the case from Sean Gabb’s press release. I take his word on most things. Britain also has much more of a surveillance state, which perhaps gives fuel to the police acting that way.
When I lived in England, the few police officers I did meet were very nice. They were serving as security for events and just standing on the street, though, so they were more representatives of the police to the public than anything else.
