UNC Chancellor Search: More Important Than You

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Today’s Daily Tarheel details a report released by two UCLA professors emeritus in which they say that while some universities may try to be green, they use such an excessive amount of air travel for conferences and trips that they simply can’t be considered environmentally-friendly.
The Daily Tarheel noted that UNC’s current search for a replacement [...]

Your Prius Is Pointless

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Since the United Nations apparently has no desire to help the world in any way that matters, such as trying to stop genocide or condemning the murder of innocent monks, they conduct panels. Lots of panels, on a variety of specialist topics. They recently held a panel on what the IT industry can do to [...]

Apartment Burning, Call FEMA?

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

A building in my apartment complex burned to the ground tonight. My building was unharmed, but it is very unsettling to have such an uncommon, horrible occurrence happen right next to your home, which is supposed to serve as the ultimate safe haven. It makes you think about things you don’t normally think about.
At least [...]

I attended a lecture last night given by Bettina Greaves, an economist from the Austrian School, who studied under Ludwig von Mises. Ms. Greaves is a lovely lady who said she was happy to speak to young people (the lecture was at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) and gave us her email [...]

So, Senator Ted Kennedy is receiving an $8 million advance for his autobiography. Since everyone’s favorite Kennedy has built a career from the votes of working-class Americans, and since he has so much empathy for the segment of Americans who, for example, make only the minimum wage, it will be absolutely fantastic when the Senator [...]

No wonder Tax Hike Mike Huckabee doesn’t want to get rid of all that bureaucracy in Washington (and in fact, wants to create more). Until she quit to work on his presidential campaign, Huckabee’s daughter Sarah worked for what Republicans have traditionally found to be the most bureaucratic and unnecessary agency, the federal Department of [...]

Is Ron Paul Crazy?

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

I’ve come to the conclusion that 10-term Congressman Ron Paul is crazy.
First of all, he has refused to take his lucrative congressional pension. When elected to Congress, 99.99% of politicians are smart enough to get what’s due to them as a public servant and actually take their pension. With all his time in office, Ron [...]

Ten Questions for Michael Moore, Part 2

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

In this post, I continue from Part 1 of my review of Michael Moore’s Sicko.
6. Why would alleged terrorists have better medical care than those who helped out at the scene of 9/11, returning members of the military sent to Walter Reed or any VA hospital, or in fact any law-abiding American citizen?
This is [...]

Ten Questions For Michael Moore, Part 1

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

I laughed, I cried, and I mentally composed this post while recently watching Michael Moore’s documentary Sicko.
After watching the movie, I have ten questions Michael Moore didn’t address extensively enough in the movie.
1. Can PT Barnum-style entertainment translate into actual health care policy?
Moore is a good filmmaker, and he does make a compelling emotional [...]

Libertarians? Aren’t They Anarchists?

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

I’ll admit it. That was my reaction when a friend of mine told me a few years ago that he was a Libertarian. “But, Libertarians are anarchists!” I admit, I was a sheep. I had heard it somewhere, the word “Libertarian” sounded weird to me, and just like most people, I sometimes don’t like things [...]
